This particular project utilized a Panasonic 103" plasma TV (along with multiple surround sound systems, a home theater, outdoor audio and video screens, MANY MANY MANY speakers and RTI universal remotes in each room to make things behave). If you aren't familiar with this behemoth, it is the biggest plasma TV ever sold commercially and if you aren't a competitive weightlifter, you aren't budging the thing. It comes in at over 500 pounds! It provides fantastic brightness and contrast for someone that wants a BIG picture but doesn't want the image to get washed out like conventional projection systems tend to do during the day.

 One speaker of MANY in a recent whole-house audio project

I just finished a really cool whole-house audio system for one lucky customer down in La Jolla and I felt the need to share a little piece of it with all of you.  You may be wondering what these awesome sleek looking boxes are. Allow me to help a little, they are not…….paper weights. LOL! They are, in fact, RTI’s AD-8 and AD-4 whole-house audio amplifiers.  What does that even mean, you may ask? Let me fill you in.  With these 2 amps, my customer has the ability to play music in 12 different areas of his house.  Not only that, he has the ability to individually turn an area on and off and individually control the volume in each of these areas.  Pretty cool huh!?! I even have it all programmed into his iPad.  All he has to do is go to the RTI home automation app on his iPad and select the “House Music” page I programmed and WHAM!, he has full control of each area with individual power on/off buttons on the screen for each area and volume slider bars for volume in each area.  It truly is easy to use and, quite frankly, just plain cool.

For example, the client could be out on his deck thinking "I'd like to listen to the Eagles right now." He could then grab his iPad, push "House Music", "Deck" and then listen to his favorite Eagles music from his computer. Phone rings? Press "Pause" on the iPad and the music stops. Want to really crank the volume! Turning the volume to level 500 and any other system command can all be done from anywhere (even outside while sipping a margarita) with the iPad!

So that is the install I was on today.  Very fun easy-to-use stuff that the customer absolutely loved.  Have any of you been wanting to get music throughout your house?  As the character in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" states, at Aire Theater Designs, we're "bona fide". In our industry, what exactly does this mean?

1) We are licensed dealers for everything that we sell: This means your product has a warranty (longer in many cases than dealers you find on-line). It also means that you are entitled to certain perks due to our elite status with specific vendors. Last week, our client Danny ordered some speakers that were out of stock. Due to our great relationship with the speaker manufacturer, the company substituted speakers that cost 50% more AT NO COST. You won't find this type of service on-line or at the local big box store.

2) Licensed, bonded, insured and carry Workers' Compensation: This means that we are above board and do everything that a company is legally supposed to. The benefit to you as a consumer is that if one of our employees were to ever get injured in your home or there was some sort of property damage...you're clear. This isn't the case when companies don't have these legal elements in place. Unfortunately many businesses in our field operate illegally by working without a contractor's license or by bringing people into your house that aren't employees.  You can easily check a company's credentials at the CSLB at the Contractor's State License Board. If a company states on the CSLB site that they don't have employees or don't have a license...buyer beware. If a business won't do these simple things legally, what's the chance that they are going to do the right thing with your project?

In our industry, these are famous last words uttered by many contractors, electricians or "expert friends" regarding their ability to complete home automation projects such as:
