!) Vinyl sounds great: When you listen to a record player, you will hear a natural sound that many CDs and streaming don’t provide. We hear more and more people complaining on forums about listening fatigue or bright speakers. The smooth, neutral sound of records and turntables may be right up your alley if you are bothered by bright, tinny or high-pitched audio. On our demo system featuring a Marantz MODEL 30 integrated amplifier, Martin Logan ESL-X tower speakers and a Pro-ject 1Xpression Carbon Classic, the sound is smooth, yet accurate and is a wonderful experience! If you really enjoy music, you owe it to your stereo system and your ears to add a turntable.
2) Cool Factor: For most of you humans under 50, you may not be familiar with how important album releases were in the past. You would line up at Tower Records or Blue Meanie in El Cajon, wait for some time in anticipation and eventually have the new record from your favorite artist in hand! What was cool, aside from having the new album from Rush, was the album liners and notes that in some cases, were like a small book detailing elements of production, the tour or other band delights. Awesome! These elements are something that is missing in today's music BUT you can re-live it with a new turntable and records. Music was an EXPERIENCE back then and it can be again.
3) Turntable Options and Whole-House Audio: Are you just getting started with vinyl or do you want a step-up player for your existing 2-channel hi-fi system? Sonos and Victrola (turntable manufacturer that works with Sonos) have multiple options to fit your budget and needs. You also have the ability to listen to your turntable throughout ALL of your Sonos speakers which I couldn't do back in 1984 with my Rush "Fly By Night" album. See below for options:
BEST:
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon in Walnut @ $799.00:
- 8.6" carbon tonearm
- Ortofon 2M Red pre-mounted cartridge
- Anti-resonant acrylic platter
- Built-in phono pre-amp
- Belt-drive with decoupled motor to minimize vibrations
BEST:
Victrola Stream Carbon @ $799.00:
- Carbon tonearm
- Ortofon 2M Red pre-mounted cartridge
- WIRELESS connectivity to simplify use and set-up
- Anti-resonant plinth and build
- RCA output to connect to any audio system
GOOD:
Sonos has options starting at $449 and Victrola at $399 (when on sale). When you step down to these choices, there are differences including the weight of the unit (heavier turntables have more mass and less vibration), tonearms and cartridges that aren't as sensitive, different choices in aesthetics (ex: The Pro-Ject at $799.00 has a wood plinth that is pretty darn good-looking), etc. However, you will be just as cool with one of these vs. our BEST turntables and the Fonz would approve with any of these choices that you make.
