However, there are a few considerations when choosing in-ceiling speakers for your surround sound system or whole-house audio project.

1)  Quality of sound: Dollar-for-dollar, you will always get better sound out of conventional box speakers than using some form of hidden in-ceiling or in-wall speaker. If you don't have the floor/cabinet space for box speakers, in-ceiling models can be a good compromise. NOTE: Speakers make the biggest difference for the buck when it comes to sound quality. If you enjoy music and want the excitement of the theater in your room, we recommend going with the best speaker that your budget allows for.

2) Sound transfer: Are you installing in-ceiling speakers on the ground floor of a two-story home? If so, know that sound will transfer from the speakers up into the living area above.
