Sonos Roam 2

Sonos Roam 2 BT Speaker Is Here for 2024!

Here at Aire Theater Designs, we are audio guys. We like big speakers, powerful amplifiers and rocking sound. However, it is very difficult to carry our 156 pound Martin Logan XTF100 tower speaker pair to the beach, let alone the cords and cables. For these times, we like having a portable speaker to take with us. Sonos has just released their new Bluetooth portable speaker called the Roam 2 and here's the scoop.

  • .95 pounds
  • 10 hour battery life (NOTE: Your mileage may vary depending on volume and other factors)
  • 5 color choices
  • IP67 waterproof protection (3 feet of depth for up to 30 minutes)
  • Bluetooth, WiFi and has Airplay 2

We think this is a great option for active pursuits. Ex: Attach it to your mountain bike frame or golf cart with velcro. Take it to the field for a work-out. Bring it on the boat while fishing. It's a great way to enhance your life with music while getting after your favorite activities! In this 2nd generation, Sonos changed some of the set-up processes from their previous model; the Sonos Roam. The old speaker had somewhat of a clunky on/off process and you would also have to go through complete set up of the app before using the unit. We ain't got time for that! Sonos has simplified this with the Roam 2 so you can just take it out of the box, push the Bluetooth button and you're off!

If you've been following Sonos for a while, you may be aware of their other portable, Bluetooth offering called the Sonos Move. What to buy?

We would buy the Sonos Move 2: If you want better sound. It has a larger mid-woofer, 2 tweeters instead of 1, more power and provides much fuller sound. Want more battery life...it is rated at 24 hours instead of 10 hours (all of these battery life numbers are inflated as they are based on lower volumes and optimal conditions).

We would buy the Sonos Roam 2: If you want a truly portable solution. The Roam 2 weighs less than a pound where the Move 2 is over 6 pounds. Unless you have a gigantic set of pockets, you're not lugging the Move 2 around easily.

You can get 2 of the Sonos Roam 2 speakers and "group" them into a stereo mode. We have seen many people on-line asking "What sounds better...2 Sonos Roam units or 1 Sonos Move?". If sound quality is your main concern and you aren't moving the unit around that much, go with the Sonos Move 2. It has deeper bass, fuller midrange and just sounds better than the Roam, stereo pair or not. The Roam 2 truly makes sense if you just want tunes you can take anywhere and aren't as concerned with really good sound quality. See >>>Sonos Roam 2 vs Sonos Move 2 video.
